blocking a driveway                 winter ban
blocking a hydrant                   double parking

The fines for parking tickets are:

1st offense    $7.00                 2nd offense        $15.00
3rd offense        $ 25.00

You may pay the fine by placing payment inside the provided envelope and mailing it or by placing it in the drop box in the lobby of the Exeter Police Department.

If you disagree with the reason the ticket was issued you may request to speak with the officer that issued the ticket. If that does not resolve the issue you may request to speak with a supervisor. If you do not pay the ticket in the time required you will be issued a summons to appear in  court and the fine increases to $45.00.

2. What is the winter parking ban ?

The Winter Parking Ban goes into effect from December 1 through March 15 each year. Parking on all public streets and parking lots is forbidden after midnight, resulting in the vehicles receiving a parking ticket. In the event of a snow emergency being declared by the Chief of Police the vehicle may also be towed. On a limited basis the Town of Exeter issues parking permits for selected Town parking lots during the winter parking ban.

5. Why does the dispatcher ask so many questions when I call ?

The dispatchers are trained to gather as much information as possible to best determine the nature and seriousness of the problem. Frequently during an emergency call, a police officer or ambulance may have already been sent to the area while the dispatcher is still obtaining further information from you. Sometimes the dispatcher will ask that you stay on the line to assist the medical or police personnel in rendering the best and safest solution.

6. Why did it take so long for the police to arrive ?

All calls received for police services are assigned a priority rating based on the seriousness of the offense, the potential for injury or loss of /or damage to property. At times, calls of less urgent nature must be delayed so that we can respond immediately to emergencies or are currently tied up at an emergency. 11% of all calls for service during the past twelve months resulted in a delayed response.
